VATSIM, one of the three major flight simulation networks, has recently, more than once, taken to their social network profiles to announce and further address the so-called VATSIM Velocity.
VATSIM Velocity was said, by VATSIM, to be the “future of online flight simulation” offering users low latency, high precision position tracking, and unrivaled performance. While as of right now, VATSIM updates aircraft positions once every five seconds, VATSIM Velocity will update the aircraft positions five times every second.
With that being said, 5 pilot clients and 2 controlling clients for VATSIM will no longer be supported. From April 1st this year, at 0000z, both pilots and controllers will no longer be able to use Squawkbox, Squawkbox747, Squawkbox for Fly!, XConnect, FSINN, ASRC, and SPARC.
VATSIM Velocity is currently in a closed alpha stage to which every registered VATSIM user can sign up through their website here. It is yet unknown when will the VATSIM Velocity be released to the public.
