MSFS2020 - Grumman Goose G21A Realism Improvement Mod - V.1.9.2

This is a modification to the MSFS 2020 default Microsoft Grumman G-21A Goose aircraft and is primarily aimed at improving the flight model to make its overall performance more closely match the actual aircraft, providing a much closer experience to flying the real aircraft.  A number of changes have been made to the aircraft flight model and engine parameters, and the weight and balance, which are all detailed in the included Change Log file.

This mod is easily installed by simply unzipping the download file and copying the mge-microsoft-aircraft-g-21 folder to the MSFS Community folder.  It will then replace the existing default Grumman G-21A Goose aircraft in the MSFS aircraft selection screen, and will also continue to utilize all of the available Liveries.  To uninstall the mod and return to using the MSFS default aircraft, simply remove it from the Community folder.

        • ⦁ The max Tailwheel Steering Angle has been increased from 45 to 60 degrees to more closely match the actual aircraft and improve the taxi steering. This significantly reduces the minimum turn radius and makes it much easier to get into and out of tight parking spots.
        • ⦁ The manifest.json file has been updated with the current version number.

        Version 1.8.0

        • ⦁ The Landing Gear Extension and Retraction Time has been increased significantly, to more closely match the actual aircraft. The landing gear on this aircraft are operated with a manual hand crank that requires many turns and a long time to fully extend or retract the gear.
        • ⦁ The Landing Gear Hand Crank animation speed has been reduced to improve the realism of the hand crank operation, and match the more realistic gear extension and retraction speed.
        • ⦁ The Flaps Extension and Retraction time has been increased to more closely match the actual aircraft, and to match the flaps sound. The flaps "thump" sound now coincides with the completion of each notch of flaps.
        • The Hydraulic System is now driven by both engines instead of only one.
        • The Hydraulic System Pressure has been increased to a more realistic level of 1600 psi to improve the operation of the flaps.
        • The Default Takeoff Trim for a Runway start has been increased from 1.5 to 2.0 degrees UP. This is a better setting for both takeoff and landing with the default loading and full tanks.
        • The Flying Tips document has been updated.

        Version 1.6.2

        • ⦁ The Prop Governor Min. RPM has been increased from 600 to 1200 RPM to match the actual aircraft specs, which also allows easier and more precise RPM settings to be made with the Prop levers. The range of the Prop Levers is now 1200 - 2300 RPM, as it should be.
        • A PDF copy of the actual Grumman Goose Pilots Handbook is now included under the Documentation folder.
        • The Flying Tips document has been updated.
        • The Landing Gear postion and suspension have been adjusted to improve the lateral stability and ground handling.

        • For a nighttime Ramp start, the Cabin Lights switch, and Cockpit Lights will now default to ON, so they will come on as soon as the Battery switch is turned ON. This eliminates the need to move into the passenger cabin and manually turn on the cabin lights switch to get the cockpit lights on. For a daytime Ramp start, the Cabin Lights switch, and Cockpit Lights will default to OFF.
        • For a daytime Runway start the Cabin Lights switch and Cockpit Lights will now default to OFF. For a nighttime Runway start, the Cabin Lights switch, and Cockpit Lights will default to ON.
        • For a nighttime Runway start the Landing Light will now default to ON. For a daytime Runway start the Landing Light will default to OFF.
        • For a Ramp start, the Fuel Tank Selector will now default to OFF. It should be set to RIGHT for startup and taxi, and then set to LEFT before takeoff as part of the standard engine runup checklist. This eliminates the incorrect MSFS default setting of ALL.
        • For a Runway start the Fuel Tank Selector will now default to RIGHT. It should be set to LEFT before takeoff as part of the standard engine runup checklist. This eliminates the incorrect MSFS default setting of ALL.
        • For a Runway start the Parking Brake will now default to ON, so you can perform the pre-takeoff engine runup checklist.
        • The Supercharger Minimum Boost has been increased, which also slightly increases the idle RPM, to more closely match the actual aircraft.
        • The RPM drop while running on one magneto has been decreased to match the actual aircraft spec of 40 - 60 RPM drop at 1,600 RPM.
        • The Flying Tips document has been updated.

        Version 1.4.0
